Atop the bank’s door loomed a stone figure.
-” Dad, who’s that? I think I’ve seen him before? ”
– “ Of course,it’s Hermes, the best and worst of Gods! He’s omnipresent. ”
– “ ??? “
– “ Everywhere! … Because he is the God of Commerce ( and logically also of thieves ), herds, language, astronomy, travels, athletes, borders ( even Hell’s ), guiding dead folks, protecting homes and a few more things? “
-” All of those? Really? Then why do you say he’s the worst God? “
-” Well! According to Aesop, he was also tasked with splitting intelligence equally amongst humans. Likely the worst job of the Aeons, wouldn’t you say? ”
. . . Stunned pensive silence!

The above short story is an entry to a weekly challenge on WordPress called : Friday Fictioneers!
The idea is to write a hundred words short fiction ( flash ) story upon the prompt that is provided by Rochelle under the form of the above picture.

Dear Def,
It would seem that the intelligence wasn’t spread evenly. Just saying. I’m stunned to pensive silence. Nice one.
Shalom,
Rochelle
TY mylady! I was wondering about the Def instead of Tay as I approved your message when I noticed the Runtshell! So thanks again for the laughs upon waking! 😎
Dear DLoR,
He was the original multi-tasker and took a while sorting out his priorities. I’m willing to cut him some slack.
Good story.
Aloha,
Doug
So Douglas switched to impersonal blog name calling too? Hum, I’ve always wondered if Rochelle and you were not avatars of the same person … a conspiracy theory sure but well in keeping with your excellent take on this week’s image, IWW!
TY mate ( or to both as is the case if I am right ), Tay. 😉
And yes, you’re right on the too many jobs part but for the importance of the one up there, he should have “prioritized”? Really!
Nice bit of back ground on our face above the door. Makes sense, except where we are stunned – but pensively – meaning at least we can think, or some of us can anyway.
Actually, the kid is the stunned one, sexy Linda? Even in fiction, I wouldn’t presume of the understanding of others, naturally! Especially as it would ruin my piece for I happen to side with dad’s view! 😎 Which I’m sure is what you meant? ( OOPS! I did it nonetheless? )
😀 OH, well! That way, we are both inarticulate and since I corrected the k/g typo for you,
the second comment is not needed?
Have a great day and TY ma’am, Tay.
Splitting intelligence equally? He certainly didn’t do that very well! Then again, with that job spec, he needed an assistant, maybe a whole department to get the work done 😉
Even Aesop thought so, ending his fable 520 by saying that Hermes had indeed succeeded so that per size, smaller folks had more concentrated intelligence that tall big ones!
He meant it as a joke to show his point of course, otherwise skinny midgets would be the sole winners of Nobel Prizes? 😀
You can find it in the very last link!
TY and good day, Tay.
Now, now, Tay…I realize that Aesop was just pointing out the truth. After all, few adults are shorter than I am, so you just need to trust my wisdom about this. 😀
LOL. Of course, you’d think so! Why am I suddenly remembering La Rochefoucauld’s maxim 89 : – Everyone complains about their memory, and no one complains about their judgment. ???
Tsk, wink, LOL Tay.
I hadn’t heard that fable.
Ahh well, nobody’s perfect.
